In the year 2024, NEET examination faced major backlash due to its failure of not being able to provide legitimacy. Due to unethical activities, the entrance exam faced major issues. This also cultivated a lot stress for aspirants and their parents.

Therefore, major changes to the NEET 2025 exam pattern and mode are anticipated as the National Testing Agency (NTA) works to address past controversies surrounding the exam.

To ensure transparency and fairness, authorities are exploring significant modifications to the exam format and practices. Students aspiring to appear for NEET 2025 should stay updated on these developments.

The NEET UG 2025 exam is expected to take place between May 2 and May 4, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM, with the exact date to be confirmed. Reports indicate that Educational Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has suggested transitioning the exam to an online computer-based format, moving away from the traditional pen-and-paper mode.

Dr. Manish Jangra, Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), has urged authorities to address concerns over exam malpractices in both NEET UG and PG exams.

Furthermore, RTI activists have also asked the NTA to reconsider the NEET exam structure, so that fairness among students is maintained.

To maintain the fairness and legitimacy of the NEET examination, the NTA (National Testing Agency) has proposed significant changes to the exam format and structure. These reforms aim to enhance transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity, addressing concerns raised in previous years. Here are the key changes expected for NEET 2025:

Transition to Computer-Based Test (CBT) Format

The NEET examination is anticipated to move from the traditional pen-and-paper mode to an online computer-based format (CBT). This shift is intended to curb malpractices and unethical practices by ensuring tighter monitoring during the exam. A CBT system will help reduce logistical challenges, streamline evaluation processes, and minimize human errors in result computation. By digitizing the process, the NTA aims to create a more secure, efficient, and transparent testing environment.

Potential Adjustments in Exam Pattern

Though the exact changes in the exam pattern have not yet been finalized, potential adjustments might include the following:

Changes in Question Distribution: There may be possible modifications to the number of mandatory and optional questions. This would allow students with a vast category of questions to choose from.

Balanced Difficulty Levels: To ensure uniform difficulty across different boards and regions. This is to create a level playing field.

New Question Types: To ensure over-all aptitude evaluation of a candidates’ abilities, assertion-reasoning and case-based questions might be introduced to assess analytical and critical thinking skills.

Revision of Marking Scheme

The marking scheme may see updates, such as the introduction of scaled scoring systems or adjustments in negative marking policies. These modifications will aim to maintain fairness while ensuring that students with genuine knowledge are rewarded.

Strict Measures for Anti-Malpractice

The following steps are expected to be implemented, to offer a fair testing process:

AI-based Proctoring: In case CBT mode of exam is implemented, advanced technology will be used to monitor candidates during online exams.

Biometric Verification: Identity verification through biometric systems at exam centres.

CCTV Monitoring: To prevent unethical practices enhanced surveillance will be installed at all examination centres.

Strict Entry Rules: Only essential items, such as pens and water bottles provided by the exam centre, will be allowed. Personal items, including clips, clutches, watches, and gadgets, will be strictly prohibited. Some institutes would also not allow water bottles inside the premises. Water bottles may be offered by the examination centres itself. Though this news is not confirmed.

Extension of the Testing Window

To accommodate the online format and manage the large number of test-takers effectively, NEET 2025 may be conducted over multiple days . This will ensure a smoother examination process and reduce logistical bottlenecks.

Additional Language Options

For promoting inclusivity and accessibility to all medical aspirants, NEET 2025 is likely to offer question papers in more regional languages. This potential change will allow students from diverse linguistic backgrounds to deliver a better performance, as this will develop equal opportunities for all candidates.

Tentative Schedule

As per the tentative NBE calendar, NEET 2025 is expected to take place between May 2 and May 4, 2025. The final schedule and guidelines are likely to be announced in December 2024 on the official NTA website.
