NEET UG 2025: Latest Updates

The NEET (UG) examination has been conducted by the National Medical Commission (NMC) since 2019 to ensure uniformity in the admission process across medical institutions.

It is one of the most important and well-known medical entrance exams. NEET (UG) has always promised fairness and legitimacy for candidates seeking admission to medical colleges and a successful career.

However, the NEET (UG) 2024 faced significant criticism for not upholding the fairness and transparency that had been expected, leading to a major backlash against both the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the exam’s overall administration.

In response to these concerns, the NTA has been working on implementing new rules and reforms aimed at restoring the credibility of the examination and making the process as uniform and equitable as possible for all candidates.

What changes are taking place in NEET (UG) 2025?

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced some important changes that are supposed to take place in the NEET (UG) 2025 examination pattern. The changes are listed below:

  • Removing a particular section from the paper (Section B):

The biggest change in the NEET (UG) 2025 examination is the removal of Section B, which previously included optional questions. Section B was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide students with additional flexibility amid the challenges they faced.

For NEET (UG) 2025, the exam will consist of 180 compulsory questions, with no option to choose between sections. This change marks a return to a more streamlined format, ensuring a uniform approach for all candidates.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NEET (UG) was conducted in two shifts only for the year 2020.

This was done to ensure social distancing and safety measures. Though after the pandemic, NTA has clarified, NEET (UG) will be reverted to being conducted in a single shift.

  • The Exam Duration:

Candidates will now have to attempt the examination in 180 minutes only, i.e., in a duration of 3 hours.

It might have seemed significantly challenging for the commission to implement online mode in every institution in a short amount of time. As this is a very complex and important decision to make.

Therefore, it was decided to opt for traditional pen-and-paper mode, where candidates will use OMR sheets. This would confirm uniformity in evaluation and accessibility. NEET UG 2025 will be held in pen-and-paper mode.

More about NEET UG 2025

NEET has also updated the syllabus for the 2025 examination, which has been made available on their official website. Upon review, the syllabus does not mention any significant changes. This means that the core structure of the exam, remains the same as in previous years.

For those looking to review the detailed syllabus, it can be accessed either through the official NTA website or directly from NEET’s official page.

In addition to this, there are some important procedural changes for NEET 2025. It is now mandatory for candidates to upload their AADHAAR card details, along with their APAAR ID, during the registration process. This step is part of the increased emphasis on ensuring candidate identity verification and streamlining the admission process.

What candidates are supposed to know:

As NEET (UG) 2025 approaches, it is essential for candidates to focus on their preparation with full dedication. Effective time management and strategic study planning are key. One useful approach is to regularly incorporate Previous Year Questions (PYQs) into your study routine. This can significantly help in understanding the exam pattern, boosting time management skills, and increasing familiarity with frequently tested concepts, which can lead to better scores.
