Rate this post

The NTA (National Testing Agency) is conducting The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025. The examination is scheduled for May 4, 2025. The duration for the examination is three hours (i.e. from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM).

As of 2023, the NEET examination consisted of optional questions. These questions were added right before and during the Covid-19 period. The optional questions that were previously included were removed from 2024. The examination consisted of only 180 questions for 720 marks.

These 180 questions are divided across three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

This proper allotment of questions will allow candidates to understand all the main subjects required for medical admission. As the NEET exam is now around the corner, students should study regularly with diligence. It is important not to overwork yourself. To help students with their preparation, we have created a breakdown of the marks, number of questions, and weightage for each subject. This will provide a clear understanding of what to expect on your NEET examination.

Break-down of marks for NEET UG Subjects

Candidates must cover the following important subjects for NEET:

Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

In the NEET exam, the physics subject consists of 45 questions. Each question is worth 4 marks, which contributes to a total of 180 marks.

In the Chemistry section, there are 45 questions, with each question carrying 4 marks. This brings the total marks for the subject to 180.

Whereas, Biology subject is divided into Botany and Zoology. This section consists of 90 questions and is worth 360 marks. The total of all subjects combined sums up to 720 marks.

SubjectsNumber of QuestionsMarks
Physics45180
Chemistry45180
Biology90 (Botany 45 + Zoology 45)360

Physics Subject Weightage and Question Distribution for NEET UG

There are a total of 45 questions in the Physics subject. Each question is worth 4 marks. This contributes to a total of 180 marks. Approximately 70-75% of the questions in the Physics section are based on the Class 12 syllabus. The remaining 25-30% come from the Class 11 syllabus.

This allocation of weightage provides a balanced representation of topics of both years. However, the 12th syllabus is much greater and more advanced. Therefore, a greater emphasis is on the 12th syllabus.

The table provided above, emphasizes that the Electromagnetic Field topic holds the most weightage in the Physics section. This topic is might have approximately 5-6 questions.

This accounts for about 10% of the total marks in the Physics exam. Considering the topic’s weight, students should give more attention to studying this topic, as it can significantly impact their overall score.

However, while focusing on the Electromagnetic Field is important, students should also give sufficient and equal time to all other topics in the Physics syllabus.

A thorough preparation will ensure that they are well-prepared to solve questions from every topic. This will lead to a better overall performance and will ensure a higher score in the Physics section.

Below, we have also provided a graph below that helps to visually represent the chapters and their overall weightage in the Physics syllabus. This graphical format will allow students to easily understand the division of marks across different topics. This will make it easier for them to identify the areas that require more focus.

Therefore, students can prioritize their studies more efficiently, ensuring a thorough preparation plan by referring to this graph.

Do not skip topics in Physics

Many candidates who are appearing for NEET often feel a little anxious about the Physics section. So to manage their preparation and minimize the pressure, they may consider skipping certain topics that seem more challenging.

This might appear to be a practical strategy to some, but it could actually hamper your overall performance. Choosing to skip topics can lead to gaps in knowledge and might even cause you to skip important questions in the exam.

To achieve a higher score, you need to study each topic thoroughly and ensure you leave no subject unprepared. A thorough preparation will not only increase your chances of scoring better but it will also build confidence in solving all sections of the Physics paper.

How to Prepare for Physics for NEET UG 2025

To prepare for Physics, you can begin with the basics. You can start by referring to your state board textbooks or the NCERT books. Begin your preparation with easier chapters, then you can move on to more challenging or lengthy topics.

While studying, make detailed notes for each chapter. Note down important formulas and equations. You can also use reference books to practice solving questions. (It is advisable to just use any two reliable sources).

In addition to this, solving previous years’ questions (PYQs) is also a great way to familiarize yourself with the exam pattern. This will boost skills to solve questions at a greater pace. You can also help yourself by watching YouTube videos or referring to online notes for a better understanding of the concepts.

Make sure to not overburden yourself and prepare well for the exam!
